ClamWin Free Antivirus :: View topic

Hi,

I've been using ClamWin on my new Vista 64 computer. ClamWin was one of the few virus scanners that would actually work on Vista 64, and so far I have no complaints. I was wondering though, does anybody know a good open source/free firewall? I tried Comodo's but it was the most intrusive thing I've ever used. Thanks!

I have a Windows XP machine, and I have been using the free XP firewall for over a year now. I tried AVG's firewall, then the free Zone Alarm, and then Comodo's Firewall with HIPS, but they were all too intrusive for me. The XP firewall is as good as anything for protecting inbound traffic--in fact it scored perfect (unlike the free Zone Alarm) on Gibson's Shields Up test. The XP firewall doesn't offer any outbound traffic protection, but if you use it with a real-time antivirus, antispyware, and intrusion protection, it provides very good layered (defense in depth) protection. I understand that the Vista firewall is better than the XP one.

For intrusion protection, look into the free version of Winpatrol. It's still around, it's written/supported by a really good guy, and it's less intrusive than anything else you will find in the behavior blocking/IPS line.

I've been using GhostWall Firewall on my PIII laptop for about a year now. While it's not open source, it is freeware and takes very little resources.

How to remove firewall for World of Warcraft with the newest version of Norton 360? When I started downloading the patch it says I have a firewall up, but the Norton 360 I have is not the version that they display on the site. I have a separate task and settings tab, the Norton 360 they show has one that is combined - [Tasks and Settings]. Any ideas?

you may try to download patches via http, there are many mirrors around
