There are 50 to 60 or so file extension types that are most likely to contain a virus. You can speed up ClamWin scans if you put them in ClamWin's Filter preferences for Scan Only Matchng Filenames. You can do a search on the Web for "dangerous file extensions," but there is a good list at https://www.pcdoctor-guide.com/wordpress/?page_id=597 on the Web. I like to use the same dangerous file extensions as Zone Alarm (see the bottom of the list). I also include Office file extensions like .doc, .rtf, .ppt, .xls/.xlt (use .xl* to get both), common compression file extensions (.zip, .rar., tar), and, finally, .dll and .ini file types--these lists always seem to forget these extensions.
There are also some files that ClamWin is not very efficient at scanning. It comes preconfigured to exclude .chm files from scanning because they take too long to scan. If you use a real time antivirus scanner with ClamWin, I would also exclude .msi and .cab files--let the other scanner handle those file types.
