ClamWin is Completely Broken and I Can't Figure Out Why

(Freshclam)

Every time I try to update the database I get:
Code:
ERROR: Can't parse the config file .\clamd.conf

I've manually updated the database. No luck.

(Clamscan [through context menu, GUI, and CL])

No scan is conducted. The program simply sits at the command line of:
Code:
C:\Program Files\ClamWin\bin

... sometimes with an unknown character in front of the command.

What?

The best thing to do is probably Uninstall / Re-install clamwin. I'm not sure what could have caused this problem.

I've done that a few times. In fact, I tried ClamWin a year or two ago and I remember it did the same thing. Since then I've reformatted ~2 times.

If you previously tried ClamWin and had a similar problem, it looks like you have some configuration on your system that is causing the problem. Perhaps if you tell us something about your system, (including firewall and other security software used) someone can help.

Some AVs (the big suites) can still leave some components on a computer after you remove them unless you take extra steps to completely remove them. McAfee is bad about this. I wonder if that's part of the problem--not on the ClamWin side (it's not a resident AV, so it usually works with any AV).

Regards,

I used NOD32 for a while, but as I've said I have reformatted a time or two and the problem persists. I currently use Sygate Personal Firewall.

The error msg you posted says "can't parse clamd.conf." My ClamWin is working okay, and I don't have this file in my Prgrams/ClamWin\bin directory--or any ClamWin directory/subdirectory. I have a clamwin.conf file in the ClamWin\bin directory. Where did you download your copy of ClamWin from? Below is the proper download link. The latest ClamWin version is 0.92, and it is 17.8 mb in size. The MD5 hash for the downloaded file is MD5: 13210b8710a957d41d61e65371d22ba5.
