Hi all..

Was using AntiVir (Avira AntiVir) Free A/V for several years...

But they are ending support for win 98 / ME on Dec 31/2007 .. - and i am still running on ME (ya.. lol))) Embarassed
Some day i will update to XP etc .. or a new computer .. but not yet Razz

So i figured - i had to do something..

So there is Avast! i think.. AVG, etc.. - but i decided to check Betanews .. if something else maybe could be found..
So i typed there "free antivirus" ..and it came up with some matches.. among which i noticed your ClamWin Fee Antivirus Smile

It had customer review score of 4.2 out of 5.0 .. which is not too bad i figured..

So i decided to go for it..hehe

I uninstalled my AntiVir.. rebooted PC.. and downloaded and istalled your ClamWin A/V Smile

Everything went smooth and i am running it now.. Smile

Nice little "blue" icon in right lower corner (instead of "red" AntiVir's one) Smile
And i updated to the latest protections as well..
And same as with AntiVir.. i guess i can do it any time by right click on Icon, etc..

Then i checked my menory with ClamWin - and it told it me it's OK Smile

Computer is running pretty smooth now.. - so i guess and hope that ClamWin is not too heavy on resources.. - but doesn't look like that i think..

Then i saw you have a forum.. - so i registered .. and Here i am! Smile

Take care all.. Very Happy

Hi Darkman,

Welcome to the forum Wink

Please note that ClamWin doesn't give you on-access (or realtime or whatever you call it) protection. It is an on-demand scanner only. I just want everyone to fully understand this. So if you are a carefull user and scan regularly you should be fine, if not, you might want to install a second AV that has realtime protection.

Regards,
budtse

A question:

Now that i am running Avast! FREE... - are there any benefits for me to be running ClamWin FREE Antivirus as well?

If so - what kind?

Or All the protection(s) that ClamWin gives a user is already included in Avast! FREE Antivirus?

Thanks again....

The ClamWin Team is working on real-time protection for version 1.0, which will be a complete rewrite of the apllication. Since we have very little resources though, there is no scheduled time when it will be ready for use.

As to the question if it's usefull to scan with ClamWin from time to time: no AV detects all infections, so it's nice to have a second opinion. Some people don't like real-time scanning because it slows the system too much (especially while compiling software or other heavy tasks), and they can use ClamWin as is.
