I received an announcement this morning that Sourcefire, the creators of the Snort program, have acquired ClamAV. The announcement is at https://www.sourcefire.com/products/clamav/ for you to read.
Sourcefire now has the Clam project. The core ClamAV team will remain on the project. Clam will continue to be GPL, but I'm sure this will have some implications for ClamWin.

I'm hoping ClamAV will get more resources now, which will speed up development, bugfixing and signature writing.
We should all benefit from it.

That's right. It's a good move long term. Today's malware requires security software to have multiple functions (AV, firewall, HIPS, etc.) I would have rather seen Clam go to version 1.0 on its own, however, and they might have gotten a better deal.
