Like other antivirus programs they show the number of virus signatures within the program (eg on the main display) it would be cool if this could be impermanent into ClamWin. Not only will this show the progress of the virus signature database (eg 132843 to 154934) but also shows how many new signatures were added per update. Now i know that there could be a way to look this up in folders or files but i think it would be a nice feature to have built into the program.

What do you think? (it would not be very hard to do)

well, the best would be, if we could see the new ClamWin-GUI (see Alch's comment https://forums.clamwin.com/viewtopic.php?t=1189 here).

In the old gui, it could be perhaps also implemented at the top right main GUI, because there is empty, unused space.
Or with a scroll bar or enabled as tooltip, when moving over a certain place or ... (fill the 3 dots )

Well and since this is only brainstorming, the real question would be:
cost/value aspect ? Is this wished by others also ? (e.g. people could still see the virus signatures and some other info during scan and in the generated summaries/logs, ...) - some other aspects ? (how about people give their opinions?)

A few antivirus companies don't publish signature information because many of their signatures are generic (designed to spot virus "families" of similar malware). Heuristics and behavior analysis also enable the identification of more malware than there are signatures in their databases. In these cases, the number of signatures doesn't really mean that much.

That said, however, it probably would not hurt to make the number more visible in ClamWin. It doesn't use heuristics or behavior analysis. Clam now has more signatures than a few of the eastern European commercial antivirus programs. Clam has added about 10,000 signatures since version 0.90 about three months ago. They average about 100 signatures per day.

What I would like to see is a bar/something indicating the progress of a directory or hard drive scan--even if it's not 100% correct (an approximation is okay). That is one of those "touchy-feely" things that makes this human feel good about his computer.
