Hello,

this is from a chat just now in freenode.
Every chat partner agreed on posting this in the forum, so we get more people involved in this.
Please do so.
Keep in mind, this is just the start - NOTHING FINAL - we need more people involved.

Erkan

<DGMurdockIII>hey guys zach would like to help with new version UI
<ZachD>yeah, I'd like to help out with any design work, UI, website, or whatever else
<ravelo>i'd also like to help a bit
...
<Erkan_Yilmaz>cool, so where you guys want to start ? made already some plans to work on ? any idea is welcome I guess
<DGMurdockIII>zach sent me a desgine idea he made in PS
<Erkan_Yilmaz>cool, make it public, so we all can see
<DGMurdockIII>ok
<Erkan_Yilmaz>any additional info we should know before viewing ?
<DGMurdockIII>i post it for everone to see
<Erkan_Yilmaz>I can be a hard critique
<ZachD>it's a very basic mockup, so don't expect anything special
<DGMurdockIII>but it was made buy ZachD
<Erkan_Yilmaz>and for what is this design idea especially for ?
<Erkan_Yilmaz>website or for all clamwin ?
<ZachD>clamwin, just tried to make it look more user friendly
...
<ZachD>it is just the basic layout though
<Erkan_Yilmaz>ok, then let me be surprised
...
<ZachD>
<ZachD>there you go, just to save hassle of loading web pages
<ZachD>although I don't think the current UI makes sense, why have so much room for such a small list?
<ZachD>and then not use the white space to run the scan, it opens in a new window
<Erkan_Yilmaz>probably some implementation issue
<Erkan_Yilmaz>as you can see there is also no pause button
<ZachD>yeah I thought
<Erkan_Yilmaz>who knows what kind of bugs else is there hidden Smile BUT: I have no idea, I am just guessing, better a developer would tell
<ZachD>there isn't on clamwin anyway, thats just messing about with the main window design
<ZachD>I was gonna go for icons at the top, with drop down menu on scan, menu and report, the close, minimize buttons would be at the top left
<ZachD>but like I said, I don't understand why there's a huge whitespace anyway
<Erkan_Yilmaz>what I like is: the 5 tabs above
<Erkan_Yilmaz>but:
<Erkan_Yilmaz>- the font is too small
<Erkan_Yilmaz>- the orange might be not everyones favorite (e.g. mine)
<Erkan_Yilmaz>question:
<Erkan_Yilmaz>- the 5 tabs change style, when you move with the mouse over them ?
<Erkan_Yilmaz>- where is the exit button to be implemented ?
<Erkan_Yilmaz>- what happens when e.g. I click on scan ? there opens a selection to scan and also to to scan memory ?
<desolator>the buttons are huge
<ZachD>to be honest, that's about half an hour in photoshop, just seeing what could be done, it's in no way what I'm putting forward as a finished UI
<Erkan_Yilmaz>no worries
<ZachD>what would be useful, if you are looking for a new interface, would be a brief of what is needed, colours, and anything else that would be helpful
<Erkan_Yilmaz>it is good that someone starts this
<desolator>it needs cool icons Smile
<desolator>like the nuvola ones
<ZachD>nuvola?
<desolator> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuvola
<ZachD>I really want to help out, the program works great, but it just looks like something from windows 98 :S
...
<desolator>it needs a better GUI, but not something overdramatic, just a simple and nice looking interface.
<DGMurdockIII>those are the icons hers talking about
<Erkan_Yilmaz>icons is a good idea - imagine windows users are easy to distract with such things Smile and in the end there is not somuch to watch when clamwin is scanning - it just does it in the background
<Erkan_Yilmaz>what would be nice is some nice progress animation
<Erkan_Yilmaz>I guess now we have shocked you Zach ?
<ZachD>okay, I think I might do some basics layouts for it, and use the windows borders, and keep asking for opinions to work out what your after
<ZachD>not at all
<Erkan_Yilmaz>ok, good to hear
<Erkan_Yilmaz>btw: we are only now 4 people talking here
<Erkan_Yilmaz>we do not represent all
<DGMurdockIII>here some more icons that are good https://www.en.andreas-dirscherl.de/?menu=symbole-hardware&pg=symbole/hardware
<ZachD>alright, I'm off out, if you have any suggestions or help for the UI, post it on the clamwin forum and ill check back, later
<desolator>those look nice, is it GPL or GPL-compatible?
...
<desolator>NSIS needs to make higher res icons... they look pixelated on Vista
<desolator>255x255 is the limit I think
...
<DGMurdockIII> https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Nuvola_icons here some more icons
...
<desolator> https://www.lullabot.com/articles/free_gpl_icons_lullacons_pack_1 these are nice too
<desolator>and a list of icons (with their licenses) https://www.maxpower.ca/free-icons/2006/03/05/

Erkan_Yilmaz, fistly I'd like to thank you for all the hard work you do in the forums, it has allowed me to concentrate more on development.

Now about the new UI. We already have a new User Interface in SVN, written in C#, .NET 2.0 and functional. So what would be really great is getting more C# developers in so we can finish it.

I would like to see the Drive letters better integrated into the design, Also make better use of the ClamWin Logo and Color. Try and think outside of the box.

Alch: you might contact some of the computer science departments at the Univ. of Melbourne or Monash University and see if they can provide any assistance. I believe Clam really increased its scan speed with some university help.

Looks like ClamWin might get some angry, materialistic code, eh? It might turn commercial on us! Interesting!

Looks sharp, but according to the ClamWin team, the GUI for V. 1.0 has already been done. Now they need some help with the code.

I like it also (better than the above picture) -
of course there are some things I immediately would criticize, but since it seems GUI will not be taken (I guess that was the final decision?), I omit this now.

Some other thing: can someone post the new GUI which Alch talked about ? I am also interested to see that.

I kept myself away from THIS so long....
And I hope you will have some stripped down NON-".NET" GUI....
Otherwise I will be forced to switch to different AV....

We will keep maintaining the current light-weight GUI too

Hi,

You guys got me curious, so i checked out the code and compiled the gui.

Here's a preview of some windows (please do mind: this is a work in progress):

Maybe this will help convince more developers that V1 is no Vaporware.
I certainly will try to test/modify what i can myself.

regards,
peter
