did a scan on ardamax keylogger and it came back safe.. should keyloggers be detected?

well it does not appear to be a virus, one needs to download and install it consciously.

Upload the file containing the keylogger to VirusTotal and see if any other AVs find it. If they do, VT will send a copy to the other AV companies, including ClamAV. ClamAV will then decide whether or not to put it in their signature database. Clam does have a couple of pages of trojan keyloggers in their database.

this isn't a trojan but a legitimate setup program that requires a conscious installation. Without questioning the motive of producing or using such software (I am sure there are plenty of legitimate uses for it) it is not a virus.

I think you'll find all of the community based / open source shy away from detecting anything with commercial backing.

Try one of the anti-spyware applications that actually target key loggers. Some have specific targetting of keylogging applications. Spy Sweeper, CounterSpy, AVG anti-spyware (formerly Ewido), etc.
