hello all, i am new to this so be nice! i am debating about installing clamwin AV on my machine, and i have some questions. for one thing, does clam run nicely with other av's like bitdefender free (no runtime scanner either) or even an av like AVG that does have a runtime scanner? i am running bitdefender free right now and am not sure which to continue to run, avg, bitdefender free or clamwin av. i would prefer to run 2 or even all 3 if i can and so any light you can shed on this situation would be appreciated. secondly, i am running spyware terminator and it has an option to install clam av right alongside it. does this mean that i get some form of runtime antivirus because spyware terminator is a runtime antispyware? thank you for your responses in advance.

You'll find most people on the ClamWin forum are nice/helpful. My advice, for what it's worth as a fellow user:

If you use the Web a lot, you should use a primary resident scanner. You can use ClamWin (or another on-demand scanner) as a backup scanner. Since ClamWin isn't resident, you can use it with any other security software without problems. To prevent conflicts, however, you should not use more than one resident scanner. You could use AVG as your primary scanner and still use ClamWin and/or bitdefender free for on-demand file scanning. If you take the Spyware Terminator antivirus option and install Clam with it, you will receive resident scanning benefits--by "piggybacking" on Spyware Terminator, but it will probably not be quite as good as a "standalone" resident antivirus program like AVG.

My recommendation: Run AVG free with Spyware Terminator (no antivirus option) and Bitdefender free or ClamWin as backup. Bitdefender free is better than ClamWin at this point, but ClamWin is improving.

Regards,
