Can't scan any drive.
ClamWin told me that I have not downloaded Virus Definition Datafile, even if I've done it...
And Ican't scan any file because of it. Can anyone help me?

we are aware of the no db downloaded bug (you can temp workaround by removing main.inc directory)

@al968

I had the same problem and it hung around for a while despite all my efforts to do something about it. I tried several times to download, and it finally worked after maybe a half hour or so. It looked like ClamWin was unable to to recognize that the database had been downloaded--as if it had just been installed and couldn't do anything until it was finally flagged as updated.

Update problems usually go away after a while. Don't get upset about it--try again in a half hour or so. You may have to do it several times.

Here's my take:

If you haven't noticed lately, some of the commercial antivirus software is having quality problems because they rushed out a new version before it was ready. You see this particularly with the smaller companies. F-Prot, for instance--it's got great heuristics, but they are plagued with isolated problems that crop up, which creates some ill will, hurts their reputation, and can't be good for employee morale either.

Even after it looks like an antivirus program is ready, there must be a sufficient beta test to flush out any major bugs. ClamAV took at least four months to test version 0.90. On a comparable basis, version 1 of ClamWin is an even greater undertaking. I'm sure, however, that ClamWin will not lack for testers!

We have a working service, a working kernel driver, a working gui, but they are in early stage, they miss many functionality
and they need extensive tests. The gui can request scans to the service and get results.
So we have a base to work on, but we still need a lot of work.
V1.0 has nothing to do with current clamwin,
and only few things can be re-used since it's a project made from scratch.

We hope that soon we'll have something to test for users, but currently the only developers working on it
are alch and me, plus the gui developer that seams a lot busy.
For sure it's not easy for us to make a Commercial Standards AV, we need more effort Smile

Thanks for the update, Sherpya. I guess it would be hard for someone to "jump in the middle" and help you, but ask the community if there's something specific you need--some code, advice, etc. In addition, it's discouraging when you look at all that needs to be done, so it helps to break things up into small chunks.
