Version 0.90.1 errors

Hello Group;

I have just tried out the latest version "0.90.1". It tries to open a very long temporary file and then gives nothing but errors.

It apparently is trying to open a very long temporary file. The last stop is "/" then a name. After this iI get a message saying invalid argument. I believe it is a "libClam error".

I have real bad eyes and the errors are not kept in the log file.

I went back to version "0.88.7" with no errors.

Last thought I am using the portable version of this program.

Hello Group;

I get the same error after I installed your offical version to my PC.
I am runninging version "0.90.1" on a PC with Windows 2000 pro installed.
I am trying to scam my USB drive.

The error I recieve:

LibClamAV ERROR Failed to creat file
c:\docume~1\fhubeny\locals~1\temp/clamavxxxclamtmp/_delaaxxx (invalid argument)

I am not a programer but should the "/" not be a "\".
Also the xxxx are a long alphanumeric list.

The error message is not included in the log file and I can not copy it or I would have.

I do not get this with your version "0.88.7".

Hope this helps you out.

no / it's correct too, the problem may be different like the generated name is invalid, are you scanning some kind of archive or something?
can you send us the file?

Hello sherpya;

I found the file that gives me this error. It is a large "msi". file.

I removed it to a sub directory and then could scan my entire USB drive with no errors.

It is a 13MB file that I will be glad to send you just tell me how.

All so since it is a "MSI' file can I add "*.msi" to the files to exclude from scanning.

Hello sherpya;

I do not know if this will help you or not.

I zipped the file giving me the error. Then I told ClamAV to scan the zip file.
It workeded on it with no errors. I did not change the files name I only zipped the file.
the window came up showing ClamAv doing something to the file with out any errors. ClamAV finished and gave its report of scanning a 10MB file with no viruses found.

then you can just ignore them since some msi are not correctly uncompressed and names becomes very strange and invalid

sorry - cross posted in portableapps

I have the same problem with newer .msi files. \setup\owc11.msi from MS SQL Server 2005 ENT would be an example. What's interesting is that WinRAR 3.51 won't open this file. Older .msi files work fine with ClamWin and WinRAR.

So it appears something has changed with .msi files - or with ClamWin's handling of them.

I'd post the log, but the error messages doesn't show up in it, just the final OK/Infected result.

While you're at it, it would be nice if the error messages on screen didn't run over other stuff - there's at least a missing \n after the error msg.

I'll zip up owc11.msi and send it to you when I find the email addr I saw somewhere.

FYI - I saw someone in another post on this subject wanting to skip scanning .msi files. These are effectively executable files, and a crafty virus writer could put some bad stuff in one, so scan them.

0.90.x has a different cab extraction module, maybe the 0.88.x was not able to unpack those msi at all, but 0.90.x can unpack them but
with incorrect names, if I get some of these msi, I may try to find a workaround (there are already workaround for invalid names, but I may miss something)

I just sent one to ClamAV from their virus submit screen - owc11.msi. I can send to you if you want.

Please do not contact ClamAV team in relation to this matter, it is likely that these errors occur only in Windows, send it to us instead.
