How to remove ClamAV temp files?

In my TEMP folder ClamAV is leaving behind lots of temp folders. I am trying to delete them when logged in as the Administrator, but I just get Access Denied errors. I assume ClamAV has adjusted permissions to protect these files from accidental access or something?

At any rate, how can I clean these up? I can't figure out how to take ownership of it as Administrator and get permissions needed to delete it. But I suppose there is another way through ClamAV to tell it to clean these up?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I am using ClamAV 0.87.1. Thanks!

this is very strang directory are created using standard permission, also clamscan should remove them, and finally if it's stopped before terminating clamwin will clean temp files,
I suggest to upgrade to latest 0.90.1

These look like a leftover from the earlier (cygwin) versions, you need to change the owner to your account on these files and then you can remove them

ClamWin is not cleaning up files in the temp directory when it decompresses an archive file that it is scanning for viruses. I am able to erase them manually without any problems.

The following are the kinds files that are being left behind in the TEMP directory. The names are different but they are still similar. The directories left contained files. So as you can imagine, these would add up space-wise over time.

DIR: clamav-0585b8952d374a7ddcc0a551ff27e423.fff63b03.clamtmp
DIR: clamav-ad6d970ba9f3b1e7b534a733bbc2c6c7.fff63b03.clamtmp
FILE: ClamWin_Upadte_Time
FILE: ClamWin1.log
FILE: ClamWin2.log
FILE: ClamWin3.log

I can remove them from my WIN 98 machines, but is there an easier way? is it supposed to clog up your TEMP folder with all those temp files? I do not seem to have this problem running on WIN XP. Any ideas?

i noticed that you get tons of clamwin temp files if you run mutliple instances of clamscan at the same time. if you somehow automatically start clamscan, make sure to check that no instance of clamscan is running before starting the next scan.

I suggest you to use ccleaner it's a free utility has an option to clean non-locked files in temp directory without popping an error message on in-use files

FWIW, I've got 0.91.1 running on a Win98SE machine. I have an up-to-date version of Ccleaner. CW writes 160-370 folders to my TEMP folder every day and does not remove them. I just deleted over 7800 folders (around 8 gig) from my machine today after I got a disk full message. Ccleaner does not remove these temp folders.

Another update...I'm not about to let this beat me...As CW is scanning files, it tries to delete TEMP files, I get a Lib ClamAV error: can't remove temporary directory (directory location) Permission Denied. Again this is on a Win 98SE computer with Clam Win 0.91.2 How do I change permissions on a 98SE computer?

hello ...

same problem as me!
installed ClamWin Free AV 0.92 yesterday and made a full scan on my 2 HDDs (9 + 18 GB).

the scanning reported me about 100 failure messages like
> LibClamAV Error:
> Can't remove temporary directory
> c:\windows\temp/clamav-ae106fe8488c6610cebf5edaa4da90aa.fffcc885.clamtmp/000003:
> Permission denied

after scanning, the c:\windows\temp was filled up with 8141 small files (many were *.clamtmp or without ending) in 854 directories (like clamav-68072a9357b351f5365922e58d8f2c47.fffcc885.clamtmp) und subdirectories (digit names).

deleting them is no problem, because it is a win98se-machine, and the files / directories have not the attribute "r", "s" or "h". but why ClamWin doesn't delete them?

there are 2 other problems:

#1: another message appeared 2 times:
LibClamAV Warning: Encrypted PDF files not yet supported

#2: the list of messages begins with:
LibClamAV Warning: This version of the ClamAV engine is outdated.

is this something i should / can fix?

regards, pit
