First of all does anyone know if ClamWin Free will work on it?? If it does how light is it on system resources?? All I am using this laptop for is for internet browser (FireFox).

Your best bet may be the portable version of ClamWin running on a CD. Go here:

So there is no way to get it to have on demand scanning? Caus what I REALLY want is virus prevention.. This stupid laptop.. I couldn't get ANY Linux distro to work on it, so I had to go back to windows.. and of course all windows versions are going to easily get infected.. =\

ClamWin does on demand scanning--you tell it to scan a file/directory/drive, and it scans it. It does not have a resident/full-time/on-access scanner. The free version of AVG is a good resident scanner, and it is said to be pretty light on resources.

ClamWin out-of-the box will probably not work on NT4 (It does on Win98 SE, if that's an option).

I would advise you to have a look at Sherpya's site https://oss.netfarm.it/clamav/ https://oss.netfarm.it/clamav/ and download the vc6 clamscan port from there. That one should work. You can put the parameters in a batch file so you don't have to type them again every time (you can even set it up with the Windows task scheduler).

hope this helps,
