System frozen after execution ended

I used ClamWin portable to scan a WinXP machine that was having problems - Task Manager disabled, no Internet explorer. I ran it twice, the first time it ran out of space on my 1 Gb stick since it found a virus in a CAB file, I ended it, moved the file and started again. After running 10 hours it ended normally, it had found 2 files.

When I tried to save the logfile it gave me error messages sayring not enough resources or something like that.

When I tried to stop the memory stick to remove it it did not respond. So I just pulled the memory stick, then it came upu with the warning message about not removing before stopping.i

My Programs and My Documents are now blank. I can't get Task Manager up. While trying to open a .txt document to paste the logfile into, the cursor froze.

That is my current state.

Is my system toast?

Thanks

There is nothing applicable in the FAQ.

I can't register for The Forum so that I can post anything. I have not yet gotten an email response from my registration attempt.

Well, that's about all I can suggest--I'm just another user like you. I believe the ClamWin developers are working on the version 0.90 update right now. Since you are using portable ClamWin, I don't think they can help. You might try a Google search also. Good luck.

Thanks for the response. I did re-boot and get somewhat functional again, but I apparently have the bar888 virus, which doesn't look like it's going to be very easy to get rid of, by looking at other solutions that are out there right now. I am running ClamWin again, but since I can't get onto the internet with that PC, my options are limited.

If anyone sees a good fix for it, please help me out if you can!!

Thanks

See this walk-through: https://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-65263-hijackThis-log--please-review.html.

Here's more help: https://www.computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/20119.html.

And more: https://www.suggestafix.com/lofiversion/index.php/t24265.html.

You might try the free Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool. You can just run it from their site--you don't have to download it. The Tool is a couple of months behind, so if this is a real new virus, it won't help. It also won't help unless a virus is widespread/real bad. It's at: https://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx.

Most likely, you have a couple of associated infections. A lot of the current bad stuff has more than one malware.

Before starting, make sure you have all your Windows patches. Good luck.
