check that you TEMP dir exists and you have access to it. To find out where you temp dir is open command prompt and type "SET TEMP"

Temp dir does exist and same install problem with latest ClamWin...and I have access to the directory.

Would a previous install to a USB stick cause the conflict? (Portable ClamWin)

That shouldn't matter.


Try cleaning yor temp dir, maybe that will help.

Do you have local administrator access on the machine?

If all else fails, try uninstalling any ClamWin version you now have on your machine and download it again and install Pick the closest ftp server to you.

Thx to all suggestions, but it is obvious I have HD or windows registry corruption problems.

Installs fine on another machine running XP

I even tried installing FROM the temp dir, no joy..

All AV and spyware scans indicate no problems, so pfffft....

Reinstall probably necessary or HD replacement

In all my years I have never seen this error and I test apps constantly

Well, if nothing else helps, you could always point your temp directory to an new map.

To do this, rightclick on "My Computer" and choose "Properties". In the Advanced tab, there's a button to edit the Environment variables. Change the TEMP variable to a new map, and try installing again.

So after almost 2 weeks of trying to find the problem, I did

Turns out Tiny Firewall has gone bad and a module of it was preventing me from doing other activities as well, because the prompts never popped up

I have turned off that module until I can reinstall the app and everything is almost back to normal
