I know this is going sound like a stupid question. I've checked FAQ before asking - BUT I ran ClamWin for the first time yesterday and it has come back and reported 5 infected files with trojans. It doesn't say what it has done with these. I assume nothing - so what do I need to do about them?
Is ClamWin just a scanner and therefore do I need something else to get rid of an infections detected ?

alch,

how useless is this?? Honestly, how can ClamWin boast that it's an antivirus if it's only a virus scanner?
This is insulting to our intelligence, to be frank. If you claim to do an AntiVirus, at least implement some sort of way to clean the viruses. Also, can someone explain why ClamWin takes so much resources when it scans? Even though I have a laptop with a Pentium 750, Windows XP becomes almost unusable when Clamwin does its thing.

arghf,

Clamwin is useful to many if not most. I also can't see where we boast about it, but that is not the point.

Calmwin is a developing project and it will include realtime file monitor and better quarantine and removal features in future. I don't think it is appropriate to change project name when planned features are added.

Hi There and congratulations on your great anti-virus program it has detected trojans that Norton 2006 missed.

I have a question - I thought that your program detected and quarantined viruses - which I could simply delete by chucking and remaking the quarantine folder.
Reading some of your responses above I get the impression that I am missing something and perhaps I should treat your program as a detection tool only and then go to Norton (or similar) to remove the virus.
Can you help clarify this in a non tech speak way – thank you.

Nit quite, it depends on how you use clamwin. As you know clamwin does not yet include a on-access scanner, and you need to scan every suspicious file manually (unless it arrives in an email to MS Outllok). Because of that you need to be very cautios and scan a suspicious file before executing it. If you do that however, Clamwin is a sufficient tool for virus protection. Some people prefer not to have on-access scanner enabled because it slows down the PC a bit.

To remove a detected virus it ususally enough to delete the infected file.
