Firstly, I just wrote a long post that was automatically deleted ! What gives ...I was listed *logged in* whilst I wrote it, as I am now. I have the minimum of security tabbed for the Internet Options.
Anyhow, I will give the gist of what I wrote a fifteen minutes ago:
>Clamwin isn't working out for me. I've found the interface hard to use, and so forth.
>I want to know how to Uninstall (Clamwin -perhaps it's to small- is not listed in the ADD/REMOVE section, and won't be delete when I've run a full search.
>My appreciation for the good intentions of the Clamwin developers and those that help it along , is still strong, and if you could help with the above Uninstall issue, or offer advice on any other matter I've mentioned, or tell me why I should keep it and give it another try, a different way --I shall listen greatfully.

If you had a normal installation but still can't find ClamWin, remove the ClamWin folder under Programs. The database, logs & quarantine folder are under Documents and Settings/All Users/Clamwin, so you'll also have to remove that folder as well. Maybe one of the ClamWin team could tell you if there are any stray DLL files left anywhere that you'll need to remove, but they are pretty good about making it easy to remove all traces of their files/program. There may be other considerations if you have been using ClamWin in a networking environment, however.

no there aren't any dlls other than in clamwin frolder.
Folders to delete manually (presuming you installed for all users):
c:\program files\clamwin
c:\documents and settings\<your username>\Application Data\.clamwin
c:\documents and settings\All Users\.clamwin
Then locate and delete "ClamWin" entry from this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Please note that these steps are unnecessary if you used clamwin portable, just delete the folder where you copied it.

I'm impressed with the level of devotion you people have to aiding the ignorant, but a little disappointed that neither of you came to the defense of Clamwin. Maybe I'm not using it right?
Anyway, I probably don't need it, now that I have several good protections, in addition to the detection & removal equipment from Lavasoft and PC Tools, that I downloaded recently.
About my Clamwin experience:
After downloading it this month from the Clamwin site, I was excited to use this never-before-heard of software.. The download was much faster than the scan .
It's definitely not in the ADD/REMOVE list, and when I tried to delete the file directly, a dialogue box told me that ACCESS DENIED because it may be "write protected" or being used by another...or some such.
I admit, I still have a shaky acquaintance with many computer terms , and I may be doing something wrong. Why can't one simply delete all files from the launch icon, for example? I for one have no idea.
Let me attempt Uninstall a couple more times, carefully following the tips you've given, alch, and get back to this in the next couple days to report the results.
Can anyone tell me why -out of nowhere- the forum decides to not recognize I'm logged in, if I move to a different page, or post?
It told me I was logged in from the start, and then suddenly drops the LOG IN page on my head repeatedly --ssooo annoying!
Thanks for the advice so far...

Are you 100% certain that there is no clamwin entry in start->control panel->add/remove programs?
For the manual removal you need to right-click on clamwin icon and select exit, then close all other clamwin windows (if open). Then proceed with deleting the fils as per instructions.
As for the forum logout, maybe your browse does not allow cookies from our site?

Well, I'm just a devoted user of ClamWin since July 2006, and I was trying to help you. I didn't try to convince you to keep using ClamWin because it's your decision. I don't know you, what equipment you have, and what other software you also use. I assumed it was a valid decision for you.
Here is my story: I had a Win 98 machine, and Microsoft dropped support of it. Consequently, Zone Alarm with Antivirus (Vet) also dropped support, and I paid for AVG with firewall. Then I ran across ClamWin. A week ago I got another computer with Windows XL operating system. I did not reinstall AVG, and I asked them to take me off their mailing list. ClamWin is my only antivirus software, but since it is not yet resident, I also installed the free Cyberhawk behavior blocker and I am now using the free version of Zone Alarm. In the three months I've been using ClamWin, I've had no real problems with it. I set up daily scans for the Windows directory, and I have weekly scans set up for the Programs directory and my entire hard drive. It scans much faster on my XL system than it did on my old Win 98 system.
I support free, open source software like ClamWin. In the time that I've been using it, it's been improved regularly--about once a month, and the developers consider user input, although they can't please everybody, and their time is limited. ClamWin greatly benefits from the Clam Anvitirus project, which is its engine. The ClamWin people did a great thing when they put a Windows interface on ClamAV. The ClamAV people usually update their virus signatures many times each day. AVG (Grisoft) doesn't, and many of the other commercial antivirus people aren't as good or as regular about their updates. If ClamWin/Clam continue their development efforts, in a year or so they could have a very competitive antivirus software that will have an effect on pricing for that type of software--as it will still be FREE. The project(s) and the developers certainly deserve the support of those of us interested in antivirus software and in free/open source software. It seems all the large software companies have gotten to the point where they (like Microsort) give the users what they want them to have. As a consequence, their software is too bloated, and it suffers from common sense!
I hope this help.
Regards,

Alch, I was and am certain Clamwin wasn't listed in ADD/REMOVE. However, the other day I did another search for it and found the Uninstall file miraculously THERE. And so proceeded to get rid of all the traces I could of Clamwin . Still, some traces "cannot be delete...cannot read from source or file". Will a good Registry cleaner sort this out?
GuitarBob, good luck with Clamwin, I sincerely wish it to be as popular and highly rated as Spywarebot soon, which I have found vastly overrated. I am happy right now with my simple Spyware Doctor, used with Ad-Aware. I'll probably choose a differant Firewall, to override the one that came with the XP Service Pack 2 --which I finally installed Sunday.
Last night I ditched IE and went for Mozilla's Firefox 2.0 in a big way, and have no regrets -- continually, perpetually impressed with it so far.
Now I just need to get rid of Hotmail, that other nefarious service of MS, that has been Junking my contacts, and conversely Spamming my Inbox. Are the really incompetent fuckheads at MS or are they doing this on purpose, in some sick alliance with hackers and rogue software outfits?
Farewell! I may check in again from time to time, if not to respond!
