hi,
To my knowledge, the only thing clamwin does after booting is starting the ClamTray application (the round blue icon that you see in the windows tray). No scanning or other actions are taken, unless you have set the option "Update Virus Database on Logon". I have never before heard of this behaviour. Off course that doesn't mean it's not happening... A memory scan is definitely only triggered manually or through the scheduler. I really have no other suggestion but uninstalling clamwin and timing the boot again. |

If I simply go into the registry and rename clamtray.exe to something like clamtray1.exe, I have no delay on booting.
It is as though my firewall is preventing clamwin from acessing the network and the 1minute I see is a network timeout. Unchecking that "update on login" box was the first thing I did. |

How frequent is your ClamWin configured to update? If it is set for hourly, you might change it to something else.
If you have your firewall set to give ClamWin Internet access, you shouldn't have a problem there. Are you running the Microsoft firewall or using the Microsoft antivirus/security system? You might want to disable any "security" from Microsoft and see if that makes a difference. I would rather rely upon other vendors for real security and less problems. I hope this gives you some ideas. If you continue with ClamWin, remember to also use a real-time scanner until ClamWin goes resident. Regards, |

I use zonealarm, and as I said I prevented it from starting to test that theory.
I recently uninstalled Mcafee so now I am wondering if there is leftover junk. Updates are set to once/day. |

I uninstalled McAfee yesterday on my new computer. Even after using the Windows uninstall, there was a file or two still in the McAfee directory that I had to manually remove. I believe it had something to do with the McAfee updates, so you could be right.
One of the things I liike about ClamWin is the fact that it doesn't have a large "footprint" and doesn't try to take over a computer. I hope you can get it to work for you. Regards, |
