I see there is a native version of Clam AV vailable for Windows XP at the ClamAV web site. How far along are they compared to ClamWin? What does this mean for ClamWin development?

ClamWIn uses native Windows port since version 0.88.3. We maintain our own branch of code as it is better suited for our needs.
