When I download ClamWin I download a file.
I can not see any sum check or verification code for the file.
How can I tell if the file has been comprimised?

There is no verification check made. To my knowledge, since 2006 there has been no problem with the ClamWin installation file. There is a certain amount of security at the download site and ClamWin is not exactly very high on the malware implantation radar, so the developers figure verification is not necessary. If you feel otherwise, then you can scan the ClamWin setup file with another AV or two and/or scan it on Virus Total (if it is within the size limitation).

Since ClamWin is an on-demand AV scanner that scans for you manually or when a scan is scheduled, the developers recommend that you use it as backup to a real-time AV scanner.

What do you mean by 'backup,' GuitarBob? When you have no access to anything else?

I see--so you are probably using ClamWin on a computer with an older Windows OS--didn't know that. In that case you have no choice but to use ClamWin, although you might consider upgrading your computer.

I think I can say that ClamWin is winding down. It has not had a program update since March, 2018. It is getting harder for the part-time ClamWin developers to port the Clam AV Project Linux C++ code over to the Windows OS to derive ClamWin. There is no staff except for the 2 part-time developers and me.

Best way for sure is to scan the file on Virus Total with over 50 antivirus scanners.

A manual scan with ClamWin will tell you whether or not the file is infected with any current viruses that are circulating in files on email systems.
