Since this is open source and the name is nearly identical I'm curious to know if this is the engine used in https://www.spywareterminator.com/ Spyware Terminator--is it? It calls it WinClamAV in the program.

Thanks for notifying us. They use ClamAV engine https://www.clamav.net (the same engine used by ClamWin) and displayt GPL licence during an installation. However their engine seems very outdated (december 2005) and I did not find a way to download the source code for the engine so this *may* violate the GPL licence. I will notify ClamAV team.

Just wondering if we could be updated with how this turns out as i was thinking of installing Spyware Terminator.
Also how do they update a outdated engine?

I use Avast pro as my main virus protection with clamwin as my second scanner, witch i use a lot for checking files etc. Very good application and i also reccomend it to friends.
On the Avast forums they have mentioned using Spyware Terminator with Clamwin.
They are also interested with how this turns out.

I can't speak for Spyware Terminator as ClamWin and Spyware Terminator are not affiliated in any manner.

I just posted my observation after installing their latest version that the clamav.dll file used in spyware terminator has the [creation date] set to december 2005. There were a few critical updates to clamav engine since.

In my opinion there is no association between two of them.

Does it also share it's Virus Database with ClamAV?

spyware terminator uses clamav in this way:
clamav binaries are from clamwin (0.92)
they made a glue for delphi called clamav.dll this for the different calling convection
they made a delphi windows service using delphi, sources are available
they use the service to scan
this looks legal for the gpl but I've not looked deeply to the communication between their software and the delphi service
I've not looked also if spyware terminator uses itself clamav dll binary (this would violate gpl)
but I suppose they are not doing this, it wouldn't be a good idea

I've tested it but for some strange reason the test file clam.exe is not blocked if it's on the desktop

we are not affiliated to this software but it would be better if they use latest releases of the clamav binaries
it's not a good idea to keep old versions since old code may be vulnerable (and 0.92 is) so forged executable
can lead crashes in the services or even worse code execution

I have been using Spyware Terminator for some time and to me it seems good to be used only for spyware scan and removal. I tried also the integration with ClamAV but:
1-Virus DB is not updated with same frequency as ClamWin (actually program updated every 2/3 days which is poor performance, especially if you are have many e mails to be scanned every day).
2-Complete scans of machine become tremendously slow if ST hs Clam integration activated.

As per my experience I suggest to use ST only for spyware. ClamWin is much more reliable as antivirus tool.
