The current version of ClamWin offers the best protection and should work okay on Windows XP.

I suggest that you pair it with a real-time AV for best protection. If one of the free AVs (such as MS Security Essentials, AntiVir, Panda Free, AVG Free) does not work on XP, I suggest you download Malwarebytes free antimalware and do a daily scan with it (configure it to scan for rootkits also). Be sure to whitelist/exclude ClamWin's data folder and every .exe file in the ClamWin bin folder from the other Av's scans to prevent conflicts.

To GuitarBob or whoever can give answer. - what do you mean by the "current version". i keep getting prompted to download .99.1 and that lists Support for various formats but does not mention which window programs it supports. I looked at properties on one i have now but it does not show which version i have. Can you advise on this?

Your initial post above referenced ClamWin version .99.1 as the latest version, and this is correct. All versions of ClamWin released since Windows XP was released support the Windows XP operating system. Open ClamWin Help, and About will tell you the version of ClamWin that you have.

There is no new version of ClamWin, yet. ClamWin should run fine on Windows 10, as it is running fine on my Windows 10.

Those permission denied files are just system files that ClamWin cannot access. Unfortunately, there is no way to suppress these. They are nothing to worry about.
