I recently pared down the file types that I want ClamWin to look at during a scan to about 30 of the most likely file types included in email attachments that might harbor viruses. It took my Win98 computer about the same amount of time (over 2 hours) to scan my 80 GB hard drive as it did previously when I had almost twice as many included file types. I also noticed that I was getting screen progress reports for the % of file finished that included file types that were not in my filtered extensions.

Therefore, I’m wondering if during a scan of an entire hard drive, ClamWin even considers the file types to be filtered before it scans a file. If it doesn’t, then it should—as it would speed up the scanning process if it only considers those file types that have been filtered.

Yes, I performed the scan from the GUI, so there is a problem. I didn't realize this would be a problem for a stand-alone PC--thought it might only apply if you were using multiple PCs.
