2 of my friends are trying to register on the forums but none of them got an email to confirm there accounts. 1 of my friends is Aeon registered on forums. He registered a week ago and never got an email since. The second registered today under Greodas and never got his email. Maybe we can have some kinda of recovery for confirmation email that never got sent on the forums? Anyways, what should they do to get the confirmation email sent to them.

Seens like I didn't receive any email confirmation when I registered on the ClamWin forum in 2006, but perhaps things have changed since then.

When I registered in October, I got an email of confirmation and it went through successfully. ClamWin needs some sort of link to resend the confirmation to prevent future mishaps like this, but what should these guys do now to get another confirmation?

Well, I guess I may have gotten an email when I registered but forgot about it. I suggest they they first try a post on the ClamWin forum to see if they are registered. If they can post, then they have been registered. If they can not post, they should contact someone (the developers) via the Contact link on the main ClamWin page.

The 2 members I mentioned awhile ago, Greodas and Aeon, reported to me and said they still don't have access to the forums because of not getting a registration confirmation. They filled a contact us out to the developers and haven't gotten an email since. This was like 2 weeks ago, too. I was wondering if the developers could spare sometime to fix this issue as this might be why a lot of new members aren't posting here.

Regards,

Thanks, Bob.

The emails were sent but must have been spam-filtered. I activated the accounts manually.

Aeon and Greodas still report they can't log in. Something must be wrong with the forums, itself. Greodas e-mail is jr.otero@hotmail.com and Aeons e-mail is itachi115@att.net they gave me permission to post their e-mails here. GuitarBob, can you notify the developers again?

There is nothing wrong with the forums as far as I can tell. I was able t successfully register an account and log in. I have activated both "Aeon" and "Greodas" accounts when I first posted. I have now reset theior passwords and tested theaccounts - they work fine. I emailed the new passwords to the emails provided here.

Cheers,
Alex

I am a new member here. So far, i didn't encounter any problem during my registration and log in. Maybe, the developer kept an eye of this site to be always updated and protected. Great Service! Very Happy

Thank you for using ClamWin! Remember, it is only an on-demand scanner at present, so be sure to use a real-time scanner like the free Microsoft Security Essentials AV or Panda Free Cloud, and keep ClamWin as a backup/second opinion scanner.

Hey GuitarBob. Why do you always recommend people to use a different third party program (like Avast or MSE) instead of recommending ClamSentinel? I just figured, ClamSentinel is pretty much ClamWin only developed in D6 by a different person.

I recommend the use of another real-time AV with ClamWin even if Clam Sentinel is used because ClamWin is not a real-time scanner, and Clam Sentinel does not do any hooking to prevent malware from executing while it is checked. The Sentinel heuristics are pretty good, but if malware gets past them, the user will be be in trouble when it executes. The Sentinel heuristics also only work on Windows PE files, and that still leaves a lot of malware--JS, Office, html, etc. Most real-time AVs also have other protections besides signatures and heuristics, such as web blocking, exploit protection, or behavior blocking. Commercial AVs have started to get more marketing oriented with their "free" versions, so I recommend the use of a "real" free AV like Microsoft Security Essentials that is not accompanied by a marketing toolbar that changes your search engine/home page that gives you the option to bypass it. Some AVs now will not let you use another AV with them, so my list is getting shorter. Even Malwarebytes has gotten a bit marketing oriented.

By the way, the ClamWin developers also recommend another real-time AV be used with ClamWin.

I don't really have a problem with an experienced user like you who uses ClamWin/Clam Sentinel only, but it's still a good idea to have one or more other security products around just in case. At the least, I recommend a bootable CD/USB that is kept updated and used a couple of times per week.
