Just do some searching on the ClamWin forums for some opinions and look at the AV Comparatives and AV Test test results. We try to keep the subject here on the ClamWin forums to ClamWin. What other antivirus will let you mention their competitors on their own forums?

ClamWin makes a good backup to a real-time antivirus. It scans on-demand, not in real-time so it does not conflict with a real-time antivirus.

Most of the AV scanners used by the Jotti and Virus Total scanners are good AVs, including the Clam AV engine which ClamWin uses. None is perfect, so you need to keep whichever one you use updated.

Norton is a bit conservative with their signatures, but they make up for that with their "reputation" detections. With their customer base, they have to get it right. Clam AV (and ClamWin) is better than most AVs at detecting email/attachments and unzipping files--due to its Linux email server orientation. I could go on with each AV in line, but I hope you see my point.

Certainly cost is an important consideration for lots of users, and Clam AV/ClamWin are tops there. Even the free versions of commercial AVs are starting to monetize their free users via getting telemetry from the user (and it's not all just related to security), bundling with other software, farming email addresses, etc. lamWin just runs the optional Ask toolbar by the user upon installation to get a few paltry dollars to put back into the project.

Finally, what other AV has a site lets you mention someone else's product?

I think it is best not to post any more messages in these forums about commercial antivirus software. Let the other AV programs do their own advertising! Use whatever AV you want to, but this is the ClamWin forum!
