If your not using ClamWin you can go to Malwarebyte, both are free to use and do great.

Malwarebytes does not have a large database of virus signatures, but it has a very good heuristic scan, which can detect most of the ordinary malware that you are likely to get on a Windows computer. It does not do so well against rootkits, but that is what Kaspersky's free TDSSKiller is for. ClamWin (with the free Clam Sentinel front-end), Malwarebytes, and TDSSKiller are a pretty good security combination. Also make sure your firewall is on, and keep Windows updated.

The free AVs from the commercial AV programs are just as safe as their paid versions. The free versions actually are the basic core fo the commercial AV. The paid versons just include some extra security--such as protection from malicious web pages/exploits and built-in firewalls. The free AVs from open source projects like ClamWin are not as good as anything from the commercial AV companies, but they are easier to use, some people like to support open source projects, and projects like ClamWin can make program changes much faster than a commercial AV.

If you're asking for the best free antivirus software, it's Clamwin. If you are willing to pay a few bucks, I think Kaspersky and zone Alarm Pro are quite good.

ClamWin uses the scanning engine and virus signatures from the Clam AV project Clam AV runs on for versions of Linux and Macintosh, so you can use Clam AV on Mac. In fact, on Mac, Clam AV is a partial real-time scanner. There seems to be more malware targeting Mac now, so this is good.

Sorry - spammers sometimes join the ClamWin forum, leave a message as a "place marker" and then come back later with the spam. The messages they leave do not add much relevant information to the forum.

There are plenty of free antivirus, but paid antivirus software accounts for the most of the share.Paid antivirus-Norton Antivirus has a mature technology. It's powerful to detect
the virus. But it's really suitable for those who have a good computer configuration. If you have,my suggestion is Norton! |

In my opinion, simple is best. I use the Windows also the Ubuntu . In the window system, I have been using a variety of anti-virus software, some of them are paid, some of them are free. But now I think that clamwin is the best. And I think it's code is well written!

Thanks for using ClamWin! Since ClamWin does not have a real-time scanner, if you are on the web a lot, you probably need real-time protection. Use ClamWin as a backup to the real-time scanner. ClamWin only scans "on-demand" when you do a manual scan or when you run a scheduled scan. So if you are without a real-time scanner, a virus can get on your computer, and you will not be protected until the next time you scan with ClamWin.
The Clam Sentinel Project (a separate project from ClamWin) lets you use ClamWin in real-time, and Clam Sentinel has its own heuristic engine to detect viruses for which ClamWin does not have a signature. You can get Clam Sentinel at https://clamsentinel.sourceforge.net/ on the web. You must have ClamWin installed first before you install Clam Sentinel. Be sure to read the Simple Guide before installing it, and there is also a text file on Getting Extra Protection With Clam Sentinel. Regards, |

If you have read the posts in this thread, you should know that there is no one "best" AV program. Any of the AVs used on the Jotti or Virus Total online scanning services is good. All of them are developed by people who work hard to keep your computer safe from malware. Some have free versions. Most of them will let you try their AV for 30 days.
Use ClamWin as a backup AV to one of these real-time AVs. Regards, |
