I find it easier to just include the most dangerous file extensions to scan instead of excluding those I do not want to scan. You can do some searching on the web for "dangerous file extensions." The default list of about 120 extensions that Andrea Russo uses in Clam Sentinel is pretty thorough. My personal list of extensions, based on the malware I have seen is : bat class cmd com cpl dll doc exe flv hta htm html inf jar jse lnk ocx pdf pif ppt rar rtf scr swf sys tmp vb vbe vbs wsf wsh xls and zip. Here is Microsoft's list at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd639371.aspx on the web.
As a practical matter, however, if you have a new computer running Windows 7, I do not think ClamWin normal scans will not be too long. The real problem is that it must reload the virus signature database for each scan. Regards, |

Thanks Bob,
Those were some good lists, I've been looking for something like that a long time. Is there a way to also include files with no extension to the include list? |

I've never included files without an extension in my scheduled scans--I've always used custom extensions to scan. I do know that a manual scan of one file will do a scan regardless of the extension. That makes me think that if you configure ClamWin for extensions, it will not scan anything but those extensions--in a scheduled scan.
If you use the Clam Sentinel real-time front end for ClamWin, you can select folders to scan, regardless of extensions. Regards, |
