Everyone seem's to go on about it not being good, (Indeed, it does have it's downs all things do).

Now their reason of course is that it can't scan your whole system, there are fixes to this one of them "Clam sentinel" or if your a Firefox user you can just go to the addon page, and install "Fireclam" it will use ClamAV or ClamWin to scan files you download for viruses.

(Currently running Avast, but that's due to issues I've had I couldn't get anything with ClamWin as a 2nd opinion even viruses in it's database gave it a hard time. I have no disrespect to the Devolopers of ClamAV though they could rework their Virus updates to more finely tune it's Virus scanning capabilities.)

It can indeed, the issue is it doesn't currently have the ability to scan in real-time. Hopefully that changes in a future version, it's still considered a beta at this time (notice the program version is still less than 1) . ClamWin has a very small development team and they don't have much spare time or money to throw at this project so it's understandable that there's still a long "wish list" of features that need to be implemented and/or improved upon.

Many forum members here are aware of the ClamSentinel project but I for one was not aware of FireClam (or else I'd forgotten ) . Thanks for mentioning it.

Peno_san, ClamWin (Clam AV) does not encrypt it's database. Therefore, you may receive alerts from Avast while updating ClamWin, or running a scan. To avoid this, you can add the detected files/folders to Avast's exlusions lists. You should also disable Avast's real time shields when running a scan with ClamWin. Hope this helps.

I have been running ClamWin/ClamSentinel alongside Microsoft Security Essentials on one computer and alongside Avira AntiVir on another. It seems to work pretty well when I exclude each AV's program directory and data directory from the other one. This is not that important with ClamWin, since it does not scan in real-time, but it is important with Clam Sentinel. Sentinel scans a bit differently than the commercial Avs, which also helps limit resource use, and excluding the program and data directories lets each AV scan with low resource use and only an occasional instance where both AVs scan at the same time.

AV programs occasonally have the same signatures for a virus, so a real-time AV can recognize a virus from another AV's temp files as the other AV scans.
