Clamwin seems unable to scan a file with japanese in the file's name/path. Here is a scan log.

Scan Started Sat Nov 20 00:35:29 2010
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WARNING: Can't open file I:\Main\Music\Potential\ARA\ARA_-_MIYABI\ARA - MIYABI\01-ARA _ ??????.mp3: Invalid argument

----------- SCAN SUMMARY -----------
Known viruses: 851543
Engine version: 0.96.4
Scanned directories: 0
Scanned files: 0
Infected files: 0
Total errors: 1
Data scanned: 0.00 MB
Data read: 3.73 MB (ratio 0.00:1)
Time: 3.396 sec (0 m 3 s)

This is what the file name should look like.
01-ARA _ 幽玄境の恋唄

Am I missing something obvious, or does clamwin just not support scanning unicode filenames at all? This seems like it would be a pretty big hole for something to come through.

Yep.. had the same thing in my logs when I was playing around with a beta copy of a handy little connector application for an https://www.metrofax.com/ internet fax service that was written by one of our Japanese techs. All the output files were sticking in unicode characters so our log had the same errors:

WARNING: Can't open file C:\Program Files\???_??????\Fax_??????_081110.pdf: Invalid argument
WARNING: Can't open file C:\Program Files\???_??????\Fax_??????_091110.pdf: Invalid argument
etc..

I ended up just making a crude exclusion based on the end of the file name and it'll keep working until Jan 1st..

I would *love* to learn more about exclusions in ClamWin .. Seems like it's still getting implemented.. Like how do I exclude a directory??

Clam Sentinel has some unicode support but I do not believe it is completely supported. It works on the couple of foreign files I tested it on. The ClamWin developers could check with Andrea Russo to see what he did if they are interested. This may become more important as the internet localizes.

Here is how I exclude my malware directory from ClamWin scans in the exclusion filters: C:\Malware\*

Really? How'd you get that in there? Just typed in the exclusion and hit OK? I recall looking at the dialog box thinking there's no way to have a custom entry?

To insert a new drive, directory or file to exclude, click on the square box. This will take you to the end of the exclusion list, where you can insert/type in a new item and then OK. You can modify an existing item by clicking on the item, click on A|E, make your change and then OK. You can delete items by clicking on them and then click on the X box. You can move an item up or down the list by clicking on the item and then click on the up/down arrow.

scanning directly an unicode named path does not work because the ui uses ansi wxwindows,
perhaps clamscan has some sort of path replacement that should work if launched from the parent directory
