If you are talking about using ClamWin by itself on Windows 98, it should work okay with the default configuration. You wil have to schedule automatic scans.

Regards,

I would just do manual scans, I take it I can do that?

Sure, if you chose the integration with Windows Explorer, you can just right click on a file and then select Scan With ClamWin. Otherwise, I guess you will have to run ClamWin and then locate the file to scan from there.

Oh, is there not the option to open ClamWin and ask it to scan the C drive?

Sorry for asking it's just that I still use Avast at present and don't have ClamWin installed as yet.

Yes, you can activate ClamWin, locate the C drive in ClamWin, and then click on it to scan. You can select drives, folders, or files to scan that way. You can also set up a schedued scan--do not activate it, and you can run the scan from the ClamWin system tray icon menu. After the scan setup, Select Schedule, Run Scheduled Scan and click on the scan desired.

Clam Sentinel was originally written for Windows 98 machines, and the developer personally uses Win 98, although it will run on Win 98 through Win 7 computers. It provides basic real-time protection, and the new version undergoing testing should provide increased protection beyond basic. Malware has changed from days when you had to click to activate it. You can get it now via the web in drive-by downloads and exploits. If you surf the web, you need some real-time protection.
