Sophos now has an installable tool to protect against the recent Windows shortcut exploit. It is a little over 2mb. It protects in real-time and is supposed to work with any AV. Go to:
https://www.sophos.com/products/free-tools/sophos-windows-shortcut-exploit-protection-tool.html on the web to get the installer.
It works on Windows XP and newer computers. Restart after you install it so you will get your regular desktop icons back. When Microsoft issues a formal patch, you can uninstall it via Windows Control Panel, Programs, Uninstall.
