Not sure if anyone can help me but...
I am running ClamWin and have a Firefox plugin called Fireclam (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10882). It basically just scans any downloaded file with ClamWin.
It seems to be working fine but one thing that's been happening lately is a console pops up in front of whatever I'm doing, and says {File}: OK
It is starting to drive me crazy, but I'm not sure if there's anything I can do to remove it, or if there's a parameter I can use to run Clamwin without it opening the console every single time.
Running Windows Vista with the latest versions of ClamWin (0.95.3) and fireclam (0.6.1)
Any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks,
-Jaime

I'm not sure if this will help you, Jamie, but it's worth a shot. Look at ClamWin's Reports configuration tab. Make sure that the "Display Popup Notification Messages" is unchecked. If it is already unchecked you need a Plan B, and I can't help.

Can anybody help me to solve the problem I encountered while scanning?
I started scanning Cdrive and the report says "ERROR: Malformed database"!
And "ClamWin" could not scan my C drive. Why? How to overcome this problem?
Please tell me.

I think what you need to do is to delete the main and daily database files in ClamWin's database directory and then download the virus database update again. Once in a while they may become corrupt on your computer. You can locate the virus database folder in ClamWin's configuration, Files tab. Go to the database folder and just delete the two files that are named main and daily and do the update again.

Being this is my first post this is my first question... While this isn't really, real time protection do you think this is an effective way to protect my Flash drive from insertion infection?
I have a Sandisk U3 Cruzer 4mb Flash drive that for the most part has been great. As of late I have been trying to combine U3 and non U3 software packages that in essence will do on the road (as long as the USB functions aren't blocked -- like at some public libraries) what I can do on my home computer. The one thing I can't mimic is real time AV scanning. Found lots of "on-line" lies claiming to offer such protection(s) for free, lies nonetheless in nearly every case. Anyway to make a longer story short. I discovered that with "U3 launch Pad" in conjunction with "Portable Apps" -- I could upon insertion get ClamWin portable 0.95.3 to autorun before anything else and, scan the host computer before opening any other files. Thus, whether or not the host computer itself has real time protection I can still scan both. Good, bad, or indifferent -- your thoughts on this technique is welcomed.
Thanks,

The ClamSentinel program adds real-time scanning to ClamWin, including real-time USB/removable drive protection. It is a free program available at https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web. It provides basic protetection by scanning files as they are added to your computer or modified on it.
Sentinel runs in the system tray on Win 98, 2000, XP, Vista, and Win 7. It comes with a configuration suitable for most users, but you can tweak it via 2 right-click system tray badge icon menus. ClamWin is required to be installed/configured on the computer first, and then Clam Sentinel can be installed. Sentinel automatically detects the default system language and provides support for several languages. It comes with a default configuration that is suitable for most users, but experienced users can tweak it via two configuration options menus (Settings/Advanced Settings) that are available by right clicking on the Sentinel badge icon in the Windows System tray. Sentinel uses the ClamWin Quarantine folder and provides easy access to it from the Sentinel system tray icon right click menu.
The installation setup will remind you to close/exit an existing version of Sentinel during installation. Sentinel will use your old configuration settings when it restarts.
First time users will have to set up your own directory in which to install Sentinel. A good directory to use is C:\Program Files\ClamSentinel. If your Sentinel download file is the ClamSentinel.exe file, just download or copy the file to this directory (be sure to scan it with ClamWin first!). If your Sentinel download file is a zipped file, unzip the file to this directory, and then click on the ClamSentinel.exe file (scan it with ClamWin first!). If you are given any choices, make the choice you think is best for you. Select to Run on startup to start Sentinel automatically when your computer starts.
You can uninstall Sentinel from the Windows Start menu, by selecting Start, All Programs, Clam Sentinel, Uninstall. You can also uninstall Sentinel from the Windows Control Panel or from the Uninstall program in the Sentinel directory.

O'k, I think I understand most of that... And, in fact I'm downloading Clam Sentinel now But, I'm not clear on one thing -- will this "plug-in/additional install" provide me with real-time protection on any computer after successful installation to my USB Flash Drive ( Which is where I run ClamWin from)? or, will my use of public access computers ( My primary concern) still leave me open to possible aggravation(s) in the future?
Thanks,
ZNOP

I did not know you were running ClamWin on a flash drive, but the ClamSentinel developer has that covered too. Instructions are below. I have tested it, and it works with ClamWin Portable. I also urge you to rely upon common sense for protection in addition to your antivirus. This is especially true out in public. Clam Sentinel does not yet have any ability to detect suspicious files, so if you get some malware for which ClamWin does not yet have a signature, you have a problem. Be careful where you surf, what you share, what you download, and what you click on!
Using Clam Sentinel With ClamWin Portable
First, you must install ClamWin Portable on a USB drive/key and start it (run ClamWinPortable.exe from the ClamWinPortable directory). Configure ClamWin the way you want—just like you would if it is installed on a hard drive (not all options are available in the Portable version).
Then you must download the Clam Sentinel Zip file from the Clam Sentinel site. Extract the Sentinel files on the USB key to the ClamWinPortable\App\clamwin\bin folder.
Then you can start Clam Sentinel on the USB by clicking on the ClamSentinel.exe file and Sentinel will start protecting you. When you start Sentinel, it drops an icon in the system tray—just like it does for the regular hard drive version. You can configure Sentinel by clicking on the icon—just like for the regular version.
After Sentinel is installed on the USB key, you can start it in the future by clicking on the ClamSentrinel.exe file in the ClamWinPortable\App\clamwin\bin folder after you insert the USB key in your computer. After Sentinel is installed on the USB, you do not have to start ClamWin Portable any more—Sentinel will find the ClamWin files on the USB key. You will need to start ClamWin Portable, however, in order to update the ClamWin signature database periodically.
You can make a shortcut to Sentinel on the USB key and put it in the ClamWinPortable folder/directory with the ClamWinPortable.exe file. You could also make a shortcut to ClamWinPortable.exe and ClamSentinel.exe on your desktop so that you can start them from your desktop. CAUTION: before setting up or using ClamWinPortable and ClamSentinel from the USB key, you will need to STOP them from running if they are already installed on your hard drive.
You can stop both programs from running on the hard drive by right clicking on their icons in the system tray and then selecting Exit or Stop. When you want to remove the USB key from the computer, you will have to stop Sentinel (and ClamWinPortable if it is running) , and then click on the USB icon in the system tray and stop the USB from running before you can remove it without doing any damage to the USB.

Verily, I say unto thee, it's common sense that brought me here to start with I remember a time when things weren't so complicated. A time when a Seagate ST-225 hard drive was virtually unlimited storage and "F-PROT" on 5 1/4" floppy was all you needed to fight viruses. Now, we have background, autorun, API Dll Hooking Trojans, and other horrors to contend with.
Muchos Gracias, Senor Bob.
