| Will ClamWin ever Overcome the Permission denied problem? |

Clam AV provides the scanning engine and database used by ClamWin. Clam is primarily used on Liniux email gateways and doesn't have to worry about what is on the computer box itself. They are primarily concerned with scanning one file at a time to see if it is malicious. To fix the problem, Clam will have to change its orientation somewhat or the ClamWin developers are going to have to make some changes to the scanning engine. ClamWin development is primarily concerned with porting Clam over to Windows without delving into the scanning engine. Clam has discontinued support of their SODG Windows version of the scanner, and I'm not sure what this means. I guess we need to stay tuned for further developments, eh?

you cannot overcome system security rights, it's wrong by design, you shouldn't be able to read protected or other user's files, if you are talking about SYSTEM/SAM/SECURITY registry hive, it's pointeless to scan them as file

I downloaded clamwin to Windows Vista yesterday. When I scanned the C I had similar results to other postings (ie System 32 -Permission denied) which I understand is not a security issue. When I scanned the D after 5 seconds I was informed 'cannot access file D\'. I have changed the administrator settings, tried it in safe mode, and right clicked to run as administrator to no avail. Any suggestions please, I am not an expert but at this stage I wish I had paid for a better system.
Many Thanks |

You might try right-clicking on the ClamWin icon and select Run As Administrator.
You don't have to pay for a good AV solution. In addition to ClamWin (which can be used as a real-time scanner with the ClamSentinel front-end at https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web), Microsoft's Security Essentials, Alwil's Avast, and Avira's Antivir scanners are all very good free real-time scanners.
