I have the virus db update to be done nightly at 00:05 and a scheduled scan of my c: drive at 01:30. However, when I went to check the logs, the only scan that showed up was my initial scan just after installing it. Is there any way to check to make sure that the scheduled nightly scan is taking place, or to force a scheduled scan to create a log?

Is the update going okay? If it is, make sure you have activated the schedule for your scan in the setup--check the "activate this schedule" box. Even if a scan is scheduled, you need to activate it. If ClamWin isn't updating either, your computer may be going to sleep and not waking up, so you may need to change that configuration in Windows.

The update is going ok, but I'll check to see that the scheduled scan is activated. If it is, any hints on how to see if the scan actually ran?

If the scan ran, there would be a scan report for that time. On the ClamWin icon, right click, go to Display Reports, Virus Scan Report to see a sumary. If the scan ran, it will be the last scan in the report.

Ok, I was able to check that computer this morning, and it turns out that neither the update nor the scan is running at the scheduled time. The update is happening when I log in rather than overnight. So I took a look at my Power Options (right click on desktop, properties, screensaver tab, power... button) and that is set to Home/Office Desk, turn off monitor after 1 hour, turn off hard disks never, system standby never. Hibernation is not enabled either.
I do log out every evening, but leave the computer powered on.
Any idea what I'm missing?

if you log out then the scheduler is not running. You need to be logged on for clamtray.exe to run and execute scheduled scans. An alternative is to use windows task scheduler and clamscan.exe

Ok... I can set up Windows scheduler to run clamscan.exe at the desired time. Is there a similar program that I can have it run to do the definitions update nightly, or do I need to have it check on logon (which I'd like to avoid, so that its not running while I'm trying to work also).

ClamWin is updated via the freshclam.exe program which is in the ClamWin\Bin directory, along wth clamscan.
You should be able to set up normal scans/updates via the ClamWin configuration GUI menu though.

GuitarBob,
Your reply confuses me a little bit.
I have had the preference set to update at 12:05 am each night, and then, in case that took a while for some reason, start a scan at 1:30 am of the C: drive. That should be completed by the time I log on around 7:30 in the morning. However, neither the update nor the scan have been running. It could be because the machine is sleeping, but I think I've got my power settings configured so that the monitor goes to sleep, but the processor and hard drives do not.
Alch indicated that I need to be logged in to have the clamtray.exe scheduler start a scan, so I believe that that would also prevent the updater from running, but perhaps not.
At this point I have set Windows scheduler to run the scan at 1:30 with my logon credentials, and enabled the option to have ClamWin check for database updates upon logon. That last may not be ideal, because the machine is logged onto by others during the day who are not local admins and want to be able to work as soon as the log on (I'm still not positive how many resources downloading the database updates take, or if it works quietly in the background to do so), and I'm not always the first person to log on.
Would scheduling freshclam.exe to run with my credentials just after midnight each night do the database check with less drain on primetime resources than my current use of the "check for update at logon"? Do I need to worry about the .conf files I've seen in the other posts on this board? (I think they all pertain to running ClamWin on a UNIX, LINUX, or WindowsNTServer box, but I'm not absolutely positive of that).

Yesterday I used Windows scheduler as described above, and when I got in this morning, I checked for a scan log. There was none. Should the clamscan.exe task have generated a report that I can access via the systemtray right-click option to Display Reports, Virus Scan Report? If not, is there a way to check to see if the scan ran? Do I need to play with a .conf file somehow?

I am still not getting reports from clamscan or freshclam on the nightly run, although windows scheduler reports that they are running. Do I need to adjust any settings in ClamWin.conf to ensure that reports show up? I'm nervous that they aren't really running...
