G'day to all. I'm not sure if this is the correct Fourm, so I thought I'd post here and beg forgiveness.

I have installed calmwin 0.95.3 (latest updates as of an hour ago). All is well and it's saved our butts a few times already.

Now that we have it installed and we consider it to be stable, I thought we'd use the emal alert feature so that myself and three of my SE types could get alerts on our systems and blackberrys.

I've configured a new account on hMailServer (which is stable and we've been using for about 6 months). I've configured hMailServer for "No SMTP authentication" for this account (alerts@mydomain.ca). When I try to send a test message, I get an error saying that I am not connected to the Interweb (535 requires authentication, and more...). I am using the IP address of the machine (also tried the FQDN). The account is correct as are the credentials (I tested using Outlook Express 6 - Not using the "my server requires..." as I thought this was the problem with Clamwin.

The logs for hMailServer show a connection with no errors in either the POP3 nor the SMTP negotiaions. Yet Clamwin says different.

This is not critical, but sure would be nice to get working.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance (and great tool...)

I'm wandering if there is another forum I should post in. Seems that almost 24 hours later there is no reply to my post, I might be either in the wrong forum or the wrong site altoghether.

If someone can direct me to the correct forum, I would appreciate it.

Tx...

This is the right forum, but it is supported by volunteers who have limited time and may not be able to respond immediately.
It is hard to troubleshoot your problem with the information provided. I would try emulating a mail client manually with telnet
telnet host 25
mail from:user@email
rcpt to:user@email
data
test email
.

Thanks alch, good to know I was in the right forum - getting a little worried.

I can confirm correct connection, can send and retrieve emails using a telnet session. I've also tried using an existing known working account but I still get the same error.

I've spoken to the developers of hMailServer at length and we can confirm that it is configured correctly. We tried this on an Exchange 2K and 2K3 server as well with the same errors.

Thanks.

More information that I should have included:

1) Windows 2000 AS,
2) All SP, updates and fixes installed (Stable),
3) This afternoon, got an update notice to v 0.96.0.1, installed it,
4) Rebooted system (a habit),
5) The account I created "Does Not" use SMTP authentication (Clamwin config windows does not provide an option to do this).

When I log the SMTP and POP3 conenctions, I get the following account connect string passed to the SMTP server:
alerts@mydomain.comalerts@mydomain.comthePassword Being used.

See the bizarre part??? I have (and had two of my senior SE types) revisit the setup for both the email account and Clamwin. We all have the same configuration results (I didn't tell them any of my settings). I even had them create new accounts to try. When using a POP app (OE6 and Outlook 2K3/2K7) with "No SMTP" authentication, they all worked fine.

The INI file shows all the correct settings, so this is a mystery.

Also, using a Known Good account that we use for another email alert service in another app works fine there, but not in Clamwin.

Hopefully this helps (I was kinda hoping the update today would fixe it).

Maybe a firewall is blocking clamwin.exe from connecting to your mail server?
[Edit]Sorry I did not read your previous message properly. Scrap my stupid suggestion above.[/Edit]

So your logs show that clamwin is doing an authenticated SMTP connection?

Hi alch, I've since removed it as I was not getting any assisance until this message.

I'll have to re-install and try sending a test message and forwrad the logs.

It may take a day or so and I am out of town on business, so a tad of patience is appreciated.

Thanks again....
