Sorry but I have never performed any of this before, can you actually show me the part that I need to paste as it's all very confusing to me?
Also when I try to save in notepad or wordpad I don't see an option to save as an ini file. Perhaps someone could write one specifically for me to use on windows 98 only? ![]() |

Select all the text beneath the very first line which starts thus:
;================================================== Now, copy that into notepad and make certain thar wordwrap is turned off in notepad. Save the file. Rename this as ClamSentinel.ini Windows will tell you that you are trying to change an extension, but it's OK to do that. Dave |

Star, from what I see, it looks OK. BTW, if you're using the BitDefender 10 Free, you really don't need ClamSentinel, but it is a GREAT idea, as well as a neat security toy!

Hi Dave,
Does Bit Defender 10 support Windows 98 by any chance? |

Go to filehippo.com and get BitDefender Free version 10 Build 247. This data will be on the filhippo antivirus page under technical details of the product. Download it and when you install it, choose the COMPLETE option during the install when you come to that choice. On Win 9x/ME systems, BD 10 Free does provide on-access protection for viruses and spyware, email scanning, P2P an IM protction, as well as some registry protection. So you might want to leave off ClamSentinel while you're running BD 10. One drawback of BD 10 Free: YOU CAN'T TURN IT OFF! So to disable it, you have to take all its processes off the startup list and reboot. BDSS.EXE BDAGENT.EXE BDMCON.EXE BDINIT.EXE XCOMMSVR.EXE LIVESRV.EXE VSSERV.EXE

Thanks Dave,
Not too sure what to do now, lol If I use the Clam Sentinel do I just need to save that file after I have copied that other data and save it as it's ini file and remove the current ini file if there is one already there? Also will I need to amend anything in that data before I save it? |

make ini file changes and save over old file. defaults are ok for use except when u need to make specific choices for win98 or xp. lines starting with a semicolon are the active command lines. for w98, make them active and put a beginning semicolon by the xp choicresto inactivate xp. run sentinel and right click icon and select real time use. for future changes, stop sentinel, make ini changes, save file, and restart computer.

Star, to make a line inactive, you place a semicolon at the very first like this:
;I DON'T WANT THIS LINE (INACTIVE) BUT I DO WANT THIS LINE (ACTIVE NO SEMICOLON AT THE VERY FIRST) ;AND I DON'T WANT THIS AND I DO WANT THIS. Dave |

I have copied and pasted what you see below into notepad, and I saved it as .ini under all files, and this file is on my C drive at the moment being that I haven't installed Clamwin or ClamWin Sentinel as yet.

It looks like you have it configured correctly for Win98/ME.
As you said, you are not detecting any new drives or scanning/asking to scan them. I would decrease the log file size to 1--Sentinel has a lot of log entries, and drive space may be limited. Don't put anything after the MaxLogSizeMB=1 or 2. Finally, there are too many file extensions for me in the config file. Instead of the default configuration, I use ExtToScan=.EXE,.DLL,.HTML,.ZIP,.TMP,.SYS,.PHP,.SCR,.PDF,.INF,.PIF,.RAR,.VBS,.JS,.BAT,.COM,.RTF,.CRT,.PNG,.HTA,.WSH,.LNK,.TAR,.CMD,.SHS,.SWF,.DOC,.XLS,.PPT,.OCX,.AVI,.EML,.ASF,.7Z,.GZ,.FNR,.FNE,.EOT,.HTM,.JSE,.JAR,.CSS,.DRV,.CPL When you get ClamWin installed, put the Sentinel files in a directory like C:\Programs\ClamSentinel, click on ClamSentinel.exe, right click on the Sentinel icon shield in the system tray, make sure to check real-time scanner, and you should be ready to go. Let Andrea Russo know if you have any problems with his new virtual driver for Win 98. He has really done a lot of work on it. Regards, |
