Hello
Thanks for any help. I have no idea if I am posting this to the right place in the forum--brand new member.
I have been using Clam Shell for several months & haven't made any changes in the way it is set up.
Yesterday, my computer started running very slow & Clam Shell kept telling me it was running the weekly scan. (on Fri.) & it never stopped.
I decided today to uninstall ClamShell & it stalled halfway thro the uninstall. I rebooted the computer & haven't found any trace of Clam Shell in the Control Panel or in the Libraries. The computer runs fine again--fast & clean.
So...my question is do I dare download Clam Shell again or not.
I am running
Win7
custom built quad core, 64 bit, ASUS motherboard almost new computer.

There may be a date-related problem with ClamWin (you call it ClamShell) due to a beginning of the year problem. We had this problem last year, and it seems to still be around. See the recent post by bitminer and those preceeding it. It might be safer not to re-install ClamWin until this is looked into. If you do install it, I would not set up any scheduled scans. I would only scan manually until it is fixed.
You need virus protection if you surf the web. If you are not using an AV at this time, you might want to look into Microsoft's free Security Essentials. It is very good, and it handles all kinds of malware. A combination of Security Essentials with ClamWin as a backup scanner provides good protection.

I really appreciate the information. I have MS Security Essentials-64 bit installed now as you recommended.
I would really like to make sure I have a clean un-install before I consider reloading ClamWin. Are their instructions somewhere on the website.
The guy who built the computer installed the program ClamShell or ClamWin (now I am unsure if they are the same or different). I have really liked it much more than any commercial anti-virus program I have used.. But, I've always had problems because of an incomplete un-install when I've made a switch.

It appears that Clam Shell is actually a graphical interface to Clam AV for Linux and Mac OS. I don't think you can get any help here because this is the forums for ClamWin for Windows, which is also based on Clam AV for Linux but it has been ported over to Windows by the ClamWin team. Alternatively, what you call Clam Shell may be a special installation of Clam AV for your Windows computer using a special graphical interface that is not sanctioned by the ClamWin team. We can only help with the official version of ClamWin here. Perhaps a look at your Help/About page of the software will tell you what program you are using. Does it say copyright ClamWin Pty Ltd., authors Alch and Gianluigi?
