ClamWin Free Antivirus :: View topic - Is the Clamwin.zip file needed to run ClamWin?

I am making a portable - USB - edition of ClamWin, and trying to cut down on space needed on the stick. Clearly I don't need the manual (manual.pdf and manual.chm) from the "bin" folder, but is clamwin.zip (6113 Kb) from the "lib" folder needed? It seems to contain nothing but .pyd files, and far more than are already expanded in the folder itself.

And can I leave out any other files?

Of course it is needed - why would we install files that are not necessary?

Thanks, Alch, but you might have included clamwin.zip as part of the standard package, from which files relevant to the current OS could have been extracted. Now that the installation is up and running, the .zip file might have been no longer needed, especially in a stripped down version. (And you might not have had the installation routine delete the file after use in case the user wanted to use the programme on a different OS).

But enough excuses for what must have seemed a silly question, and thank you for your very prompt response!

no problems, clamwin.zip is a compressed library of python dependencies (modules). There are required for the program to run

I'm running freshclam.exe and clamscan.exe via batch file on a USB stick without the "lib" folder at all. Seems to be working fine. Maybe the lib folder contains 'windowing/GUI' stuff? I also deleted the "log" and "quarantine" folder but I specifically don't use them.

I think the lib stuff gives ClamWin additional functionality. I will bet all you are doing is a basic scan without it. Try your scan on several different kinds of extensions--zip, rar, pdf, js, vba, MS Office stuff. Also, are all of the configuration options available to you?

you don't need lib folder if all you use is clamscan and freshclam. Lib is for the python GUI

I've been testing clamfresh and clamscan all day today with specific attention paid to Bob's suggestions about archives, OLE, etc. I haven't noticed any problems without the lib folder so far. I'm able to intentionally infect and clean a machine in cycles for testing.
