I think Alch or Sherpya should answer you, but here is my two cents' worth on this. Clam AV furnishes the scan engine and signature database for ClamWin, and they take care of most of the code dealing with virus detection. Clam has said they will have some basic Windows PE file heuristics in version 0.96 when it comes out in January or February. Clam is designed for Linux email servers, however, and they will never be able to address heuristics for files in actual use on a Windows system. So ClamWin could definitely benefit from some more specific heuristics, and they could be used now--even though ClamWin is not yet a real-time scanner.
