1) Can I use the clamav engine for commercial usage ?
2) Can I only use the database of definitions and use my engine or I will need to use the calmav engine ?
3) I tried to unpack the database definitions and I got mdb file. But when I tried to open it, it should an error message. Is it not possible that I can view all the databases ?

Thanks.

yes, you can do all you want with it, unless you try to sell it or make money with it, and you can use your own engine

You can open the database files in a text editor, like Notepad, and see the data, although it might not be structured. You might also import it into Excel. Be careful not to change/save anything, however.

Hi,

My responses below. I am no lawyer therefore the response below represents my general knowledge on the subject and should not be taken as authoritative. If you are seriously considering using the clamav engine or the database in your product then I suggest you seek a professional advise from an IT lawyer.

Yes, provided you just use the engine, any modifications or derivative works will need to be GPL licensed

ClamAV Database uses GPL license, therefore if you use it in your own engine then you are creating a derivative work and you engine will need to be licensed under GPL too

The database format is very different from MS Access MDB. More details on the format on www.clamav.net
