You might try to open the daily database from within your spreadsheet program, which will give you some formatting options. The database is just an unstructured list of virus signatures.
When looking for a certain virus, I load the database in Notepad and then do a search. Keep in mind that each AV company may have a different name for the same virus. Regards, |

Well, I pulled it up in Excel and here is one line:
Trojan.Generic.Fakesec.3232:FAKESEC:UNUSED:20c200d16ab7140ea8013051a000171aa00002ff0008ff0009ff0016fd0000c0110ec1070edd0c0671120f6c060f360c070800000a00170a0b003f002533 I think you may be able to configure it to get a better read: tab delimit, etc. There is also a list of viruses somewhere on the Virus Bulletin web site that has the name given to each virus by most of the AV companies, including Clam/ClamWin. I don't know how up to date it is, however. Regards, |

I just ran Excel 2000 and opend the daily database file in it. I just accepted the defaults, but there are some options you can use when you bring it into Excel. The tab delimited option lets you separate columns with a tab between them, and there are a couple of more separation options like that.
If you cannot run ClamWin, I do not see how looking at the signatures will help you in detecting viruses--unless you are going to use it for something else. Regards, |

I think most versions of Office will probably work.. Actually, I use Open Office and save stuff in MS Office format. MS Office costs too much, and MS gives me a hassle every time I replace my old computer and install my old Office version on it. They seem to think I am trying to steal the Crown jewels!

I think "Dily.cvd" is Zipped/Encoded.
Before opening it with any editor it must be Unzipped/ Extracted..... And task is done by its antivirus program.... ClamWin/Clamav... You may have installed ClamWin/ClamAV... Because of which Your "dily.cvd"/ "Main.cvd" gets extracted..... And hense you can open it from a notepad/wordpad/excel/openoffice...... Am i right...? |

The daily file contains the names of the viruses and their individual signatures. There are several different types of signatures--they are not all the same type.
What exactly are you trying to do with the file? The file is not really useful for very much. You might be able to search it for a particular virus by name, if you know the name Clam gives it. The signature will not tell you very much, and I doubt if it could be used by anyone outside of ClamAV for anything without a lot of work. Regards, |
