| Clamwin TMP & TEMP paths fail on a RAMDRIVE Help? |

Surely someone has used a RAMDRIVE out there...
It's not the free version that comes with some of the MS versions W2K and such (limited to 32 meg ONLY) The RAMDRIVE I'm using is a retail software package, Superspeed and has NO LIMIT on drive size. The whole point of even trying to have Clamwin use a RAMDRIVE for TEMP/TMP files on this RAMDIVE being can Clamwin be speeded up? This would seem to be a big question for ALL of us! If I can find the answer to this I'm sure this would be of great benifit to all Clamwin users out there. Yes you will have to buy a retail RAMDRIVE to have one of a size that make a difference, but Clamwin is still free And any other program that uses TEMP/TMP files (or other paths you care to set) will have a nice bump in speed! Also any Cookies and Temp files or confidendentual internet traffic junk placed on such paths, will not be hanging around between reboots. You could pay for software to do that as well, but you don't have to will this method. |

there is no other way but to use %temp% or %tmp% unfortunately. I wonder why does it fail to create a file on a ramrive. do you have any other apps with similar issue?

| CLAMWIN and avail drive space causes error on RAMDRIVE? |

Most programs will create folders as needed, boot after reboot I will see Firefox and IE make their respective
temp cache files & cookies when they are run. Winrar tried to create very large TMP files during unzip procedures that could not fit onto the RAMDRIVE. Winrar will allow users to specify the TMP drives & folders and that was the last I saw of that. Perhaps CLAMWIN is checking available drive-space on my RAMDRIVE and returning with a low space error before even attempting to create the needed folder? I can increase the size of the drive and re-try. At the time the orig CLAMWIN errors were noticed, RAMDRIVE size was 100meg (empty at boot time / during any installs of CLAMWIN) As I have 1.25 Gig total RAM to use, I'll test this again with larger RAMDRIVE settings. 2 other programs that use this RAMDRIVE without problems are Thunderbird email and AVG (for email scanning only) Thanks to all readers / responders! |
