Using ClamWin version .88.2.3. At some point, during a scan with ClamWin I found my computer powered off--now each time I execute the program, it is not going through a complete scan but causes the powerdown cycle.
I suspect a recent Windows update (possible 2).
Any similar problems or issues with Windows.................
Thanks, Ernie Garner

I recently noticed this too - last weekend I installed ClamWin on a friend's computer, and partway through a scan the computer reboots - no warning, no error message, just goes blank and reboots. It happens every time - I've tried scanning aroung 6-7 times, same result every time. Today I think it happened during a SpybotS&D scan too.
Is this likely to be caused by Clam scanning a virus with some code that triggers a reboot when scanned? i.e. some kind of viral defence mechanism?

most likely it's a software error not in clamwin. Clamwin simply opens every file and scans it. Any other third part filter such as SpybotS&D may crash because under certain conditions. I suggest to check system and application event logs, check your disk for errors and uninstall Spybot or any other third party AV that has real-time scanning (as a test only, you should install it back after the test is completed) and re-run clamwin scan.

Hi,
This week i (indeed) read about a worm that forces a reboot when it is scanned, trying to avoid being removed.
Here's a link about how to remove the worm using Adaware SE :

Hoping this can help you,

It was suggested to me that my issue was caused by the box running XP while only having 256MB of RAM - does this sound at all likely?

Remember that if you made a system restore during the time you had the worm, that it will be with you again if you restore that point(s) in time. You may want to turn off system restore and start it over from scratch.

@jimbo:
I'm pretty sure Windows Xp won't shut down itsself without giving you a good reason. If your system runs out of memory, you should get messages like "process x can't allocate memory...", or even a blue screen, but not a clean shutdown of the system.
