I tried to scan my whole computer with Clamwin 0.88.6. After 4 hours it still has not finished (I guess I was at 75%). Is that normal? When I used Norton 2003, it took about an hour.

I have set not to treat files as mailboxes, standard file filtering, no archives scaning

If you have an older computer with lots of stuff running, it could take four hours for a ClamWin scan. It took about that long on my old Win 98 computer. On my current Win XP computer and filtering for the 50 or so most dangerous file types, it takes about 90 minutes.

You can cut down on the time if you do some filtering. You could also break up one long scan into several separately scheduled scans of varous parts of your hard drive--over a day or over a week. If you have a resident antivirus program running, you might disable it during ClamWin scan, and that could speed things up some. Be sure to re-enable it after the scan. Also, make sure that you have the latest stable version of ClamWin (currently 0.88.7). It is continually being improved, but time/resources/personnel are limited, and they are currently working on other things besides scanning speed. I'm sure it will be addressed at some point in the future.

Hope this helps.

Regards

I suggest you to use filters and exclude something like *.avi *.mp* *.cab *.msi *.mp3
