I'm using clamwin from about 3 weeks, in the pc of my girlfriends powered with Avast as antivirus i see that the virus database has about 74000 signs, after a scan my clamwin report that the virus database has more than 77000 signs.
Is that a sign of a more accurate virus scanner?

It really depends upon the viruses that are in the database. You need to have in the database the signatures of viruses that a user is most likely to encounter. This is determined largely by the Web pages they visit and the number of the signatures that are current. If the signatures are mostly old and only cover certain types of viruses, that's not good. Then you get into the logic and efficiency of the coding. The scanner should have a minimum number of false positives and not be subject to very many problems--including exploits. It takes more than just the sheer number of signatures to make an accurate scanner.
