The permission denied files means that ClamWin cannot scan those files because they are locked system files. These should be nothing to worry about.

For future reference, I added the about permission denied files to our "Read First Before Posting" guide. These are stickied to the top in almost every forum section.

There is presently no way to suppress this error message--it will have to be done with the code.

However, I suggest that you just exclude the files from scanning--that should do it.

Go to ClamWin configuration menu, Filters tab, on left side select New Item (it will be the square box). Type in location of file you want to exclude. (Example: C:\Programs\program name\filename.extension). Select OK. Done! Do this for each separate file you want to exclude.

If you want to exclude an entire folder, put a * after the folder name. Example: C:\Programs\program name\*

A quick way to exclude a file is just to type filename.extension, but that will exclude the filename in all locations. Sometimes a malware might use that same filename, and you will have excluded it, so I prefer to name the exact location of the file you want to exclude to prevent this unlikely event.

Thanks for using ClamWin!

All you need to do is exlcude the directory of where the permission denied file is. For example this one "WARNING: Can't open file \\?\C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\Sum\Current.mdb: Permission denied"

To exclude this, all you would do it add this "C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\Sum\Current.mdb"

Do not exclude the entire Windows directory or System32 directory as these are hot spots for malware.

I don't think you need the * at the end.

In the original example, there were warnings about not being able to open certain files. That has been dealt with by the answers provided.
My question (and similar problem) is what are the errors being counted but not reported in the counter 'Total errors:5'.
As you see in the example there is nothing to tell us what file(s) have errors - so I have no way to find and fix them.

Thanks.

I would not worry about those errors--they are probably errors denoting other filetypes that the Clam AV engine was unable to scan. Remember that the Clam AV engine is really designed for Linux. Some Windows files were/are probably not considered by Clam AV.

Regards,

I don't know about that Bob. Back in .98, ClamAV was adding Microsoft Office file types, and as far as I am concerned, Microsoft Office does not run on Linux systems.

You can always file a bug report at their Bugzilla page to add a file type that is not being scanned by ClamAV, but please note that not all file types are hot spots for malware.

Isn't there a version of Office for other OSes besides Windows?

Anyway, I have seen ClamWin choke on a strange extension now and then.
