Some malware is automatically installed (especially adware/toolbars, etc.) when you download a file. Other malware (dangerous stuff like ransomware) can be installed (via an exploit in a program on your computer--especially Flash) when you visit a web site. Since ClamWin does not scan in real time as files are put on your computer, I suggest you use a real-time antivirus alongside ClamWin. Some good free AVs are Windows Defender, Panda Free, Forticlient, and Avira Free. Malwarebytes Free is a good malware cleaner after you get a virus infection--it is especially good at finding adware and potentially unwanted programs. Do not download a file unless you really need it, and download only from the developer's web site.

Thanks for using ClamWin

Regards,

I doubt if any viruses get into the Windows updates. Sometimes the updates can cause problems, however. They can not test them on all computer configurations. After an update a few years ago I was unable to download anything from the web with Internet Explorer for a month until they fixed it in a later update.

Regards,.
