How about creating an exclusion for it in the exclusion system by default instead of completely revoking it? So ClamWin can have a exclusion for its own paths by default so that everyone will have it and not waste time scanning itself?

I believe Clam Sentinel excludes the quarantine folder, so it can easily be done.
Did you know that ClamWin will scan any one file via a manual scan if you tell it to? Exclusions don't matter then--that's the way it was set up, and it has come in handy for me when working malware since I exclude my malware test folder, but I can still check out a file. Regards, |

Seems like we are getting a little off topic, we are not using Clam Sentinel (yet) but I will look into it. In addition to my original complaint about clamwin scanning it's own quarantine folder, I would also like to suggest that, BY DEFAULT, clamwin should not be scanning the recycle bins either. If I delete a suspected file that clamwin found, but forget to empty the trash, I really do not want clamwin to come along and scan the recycle bin and move the deleted file back into the quarantine folder!

Wouldn't it just be better to exclude those paths manually? I, for one, do not want to have recycling bin excluded by default. That is just my opinion.

Both the recycle and system restore folders have been known to harbor viruses on occasion. I haven't seen much of this lately, but there is always that possibility.

RockNRollKid - If you are a systems administrator responsible for maintaining LOTS of computers, I think you will quickly realize why hand configuring each installation of clamwin would become both tedious and a nightmare!
As for the idea that the recycle bin could harbor viruses, that is just plain nonsense! Sure it might harbor one IF I just DELETED a file containing a virus but that file is on it's way to the bit bucket! No virus writer would design his/her virus to hide in there as it is highly likely to get deleted in short order. And no one is going to execute files out of the recycle bin either unless they got a really really good reason to do so! I really see no reason why clamwin should, by default, go snooping through the trash for viruses! AND THEN COPY THEM BACK OUT OF TRASH INTO ITS QUARANTINE folder! I think the majority of users, myself included, would prefer that the trash and quarantine folders be excluded by default, and those of you who do not understand how software/viruses work, or are extremely paranoid, can un-exclude such folders by hand and live with the redundant scan reports. GuitarBob - I made no mention about the system restore files and yes I agree that clamwin should scan those files.... I don't understand why you brought that up...... |

Here is an example of a recyclin bin virus: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/289569/infected-by-recycler-recyclebin-virusworm/ Just trying to help. Anyways, it is also possible to export ClamWin settings and save them on other computers which should save you the hassle of having to configure each computer using ClamWin. Hope this helps you out.
