I'd like to beta test also but I have so little time for anything new that I don't know if I should request it.

Clam AV has just released version 98.1, so it will be some time before they get to 1.0 and the ClamWin developers port it over to Windows. When they do, ClamWin version 1.0 will be tested just like any other version. Version 1.0 will be quite a challenge. There is no telling what Clam AV will come up with for their version 1.0, and the ClamWin developers will have to integrate ClamWin 1.0 with the normal Windows port they make of Clam's code.
There are never enough beta testers--it is a very small group. See the suggestion above to sign up. It doesn't really take up too much time, and the more beta testers there are, the better the version will be. Regards, |

Version 1.0 will be beta tested before release--just like any version of ClamWin. ClamWin versions follow the Clam AV version, and Clam AV has just released version .98.1. They only release a few new versions per year, so it will be months (maybe late this year/early next year) before 1.0 comes out. See they instructions above for becoming a beta tester. There are only a few beta testers--they need more.

Thank you for accepting me. I will provide all the help I can.
@daveydoom: It looks like you are already signed up for beta testing, as seen in the beta testing forum section and the group section. No need to sign up or anythig. |

ClamWin is one of the few AVs I know of that offers users the opportunity to interact with the developers and really make a difference. I believe that ultimately an AV is only as good as its users--as the users go, so goes the AV. ClamWin needs committed, concerned, and informed users. Thanks to you both!

Another item to add to the ClamWin 1.0 Wish List: A Quick Scan after updates in lieu of real-time capability.
If there is not going to be any version 1.0 real-time capability, then I suggest the developers at least schedule a quick automatic scan after every ClamWin update. I think that a scan of memory and the autostart folder would be appropriate for this. It should not take very long, and perhaps it can be reduced by only scanning files that have a current date in the autostart folder. Regards, |

How about an option to shutdown your PC after a full scan is completed. If it finds something, then automatically quarantine then shutdown.
Also, I guess you wanted me to post this here. To make RC versions public for everyone and beta versions for private users. |

Yes, a shutdown option would be good. Some AVs have an option like that because some users like to scan just before shutdown.
The ClamWin developers currently prepare a port over to Windows from the Clam AV Linux code. This doesn't usually involve much of a change compared to the current version of ClamWin, so the port becomes the alpha version (which they may do some testing themselves on), and then they distribute a combination beta version/release candidate to the ClamWin users who signed up for beta testing. Unfortunately not very many users do any testing. Version 1.0 (if/when) will be quite a bit different, however. Regards, |

I can see why you would want to have beta versions for private users only, but with the little users that are signed up, I figured it would be much more efficient to release the last few betas, which normally are RC versions, to the public for better testing. Isn't that what ClamAV does anyways?

Yes, I believe Clam AV does something like that. Clam probably has about twice the number of users that ClamWin does. Clam hasn't had very many release candidates since Sourcefire took it over--I don't see any RCs, and then I see they have a new release. It's up to the ClamWin developers as to how they want to do it. There used to be more beta testers, but it seems that not many users are interested any more. Perhaps some ClamWin users do test it but do not bother to make any comments about the RC.

Include a check for updates before starting a scheduled scan.
Also, I think a quick scan would be relevant to scan registry, memory, some commonly infected extensions, and autoruns. |

Some AVs have the option to do a quick scan right after an update. This would be very appropriate for an AV like ClamWin that does not scan in real-time.

Moving the preferences from the drop menu to the main page for a 1-click solution. Makes it easier to access and easier to find.
