It has been announced that the Clam AV team is leaving. Sourcefire bought Clam AV a few years ago, and it will now assume complete responsibility for the Clam AV project. I do not expect any change as far as ClamWin is concerned. ClamWin will still get the Clam AV updates to the scanning engine and virus signatures. See the link below for the official announcement.

There is a reference on a Clam AV blog about the new Clam AV team at https://www.clamav.net/lang/en/2012/06/24/introducing-the-new-clamav-team/ on the web. Sourcefire is off to a good start. Just after Clam verson .97.5, they are regression testing a new Clam version, and they are already depeloping new PDF detection functionality for the version after that. Perhaps we will see a faster development cycle for Clam from the new team. Sourcefire has also reiterated its commitment to the Open Source community and asked for input from the community.

I just hope they don't drop Windows 9x-ME support.

Well, Clam AV is the Linux AV used primarily on email servers. The ClamWin developers port it over to Windows, and that's how they get ClamWin. ClamAV is still Open Source, and ClamWin still supports Win 98 (also ME if it has been working with ClamWin). I just wanted users to know there will be no change with the leaving of the original Clam AV developers.
